The table presents data on the percentage of different types of poverty-stricken families living in Australia in 1999.
Overall, poverty was more prevalent among sole parents and single, children. The least popular was an aged couple and single aged people in Australia in 1999, this group of people makes up only a very small percentage.
The sole parent is one of the poorest households in Australia in 1999, the percentage of this group of people is about 21% ( 232,000 people). 12% of couples with children, on the other hand, were not affluent. One other, single, no children are the second largest proportion of poverty families after sole parent. 19% of single Australians who have not children were needy while this rate among the elder citizens was fewer – 4% aged couple and 6% single aged person. It is evident that elder Australians were economically stronger than their younger counterparts.
