The table below elucidates the percentage of households of different categories experiencing poverty in Australia in 1999.
Overall, the biggest proportion amount to the unmarried people and single parents while the least is dominated by both solo elderly person and elderly couples. However, all people living in poverty make up 12 % of the entire population in Australia.
As it stands out from the chart that Solo parents amounted to 21 % with 232000 people. Next on the list is single people with 19 % slightly less than which comes couples with children at 12 % each accounting for 359000 and 933000 people respectively. Following this, the proportion of couples without kids with 7 % making it slightly more than that of single aged people at 6 %. Finally, the smallest figure amounts to aged couples with just 4 % making them the least poor people among all.
