Europe's forest stood at 989 million hectares in 1990, which was more immense than Oceania and Asia combined. This area expanded gradually and reached the highest point of 1001 million hectares at the end of period. An opposite pattern was clearly seen from Africa and North America. While Africa's forested zone decreased steadily from 749 million hectares to 691 million hectares, North America's area hit the lowest point of 705 million hectares in 2005.
Similarly, the wide of South American also fell from 946 million hectares to 882 million at the end. In contrast, the area of Asia's forested continually ascended, rose from 576 million to 584 million hectares. The Oceania's forested land seemed unchanged and also was the lowest of the group over the period, which roughly equaled to 200 million hectares.
