The graph provides information on how many school learners attended four types of secondary schools over a nine-year period.

Overall, it can be clearly seen that the period witnessed an attendance decline in specialist, grammar and voluntary-controlled schools while community schools saw an increase from 2000 to 2009.

In 2000, the figure for voluntary-controlled schools was the highest around 52%, followed by grammar schools in the second position approximately a quarter. In addition, both specialist and community schools had the same proportion of school learners with only 12%.

Regarding the attendance of students in secondary schools in 2009, all categories saw a downward trend, except community schools. Voluntary-controlled schools witnessed a drastic decrease of a third. Likewise, the percentage of pupils attending not only grammar schools but also specialist schools declined about 12% and 2% consecutively. In contrast, community schools showed a significant upward to over 50% of student attendance.
