The tables describe sales of Fairtrade-labelled coffee and bananas from 1999 till 2004 in UK, Switzerland, Denmark, Belgium, and Sweden.
In the first table, the sale of coffee increased over the period of five years in the five European countries. The coffee sale in the United Kingdom experienced the most dramatic increase, from 1.5 million euros in 1999 to 20 million euros in 2004. Meanwhile, the coffee sales in Switzerland were doubled from 3 million euros to 6 million euros. Also, the coffee sales in both Denmark and Sweden increased by the same amount of euros(0.2), from 1.8 to 2.0 million euros and from0.8 to 1.0 million euros respectively.
However, from the second table, the whole sales of bananas in the five countries showed a different pattern in the five years. The five years witnessed the most significant rise in Switzerland, from 15 to 47 million euros. United Kingdom and Belgium had a similar increase, ranging from 1 to 5.5 million euros and from 0.6 to 4 million euros respectively. Nonetheless, the sales of bananas in the rest two countries declined—from 1.8 to 1 million euros in Sweden and from 2 to 0.9 million euros in Denmark.
In conclusion, the first table, where the coffee sales in UK far exceeded those in any other country, presented the whole rise of coffee sale, while the second one, where the banana sales in Switzerland much surpassed those in any other country, described the different situations of the banana sale.
