The charts illustrate shifts in the proportion of annual expenditure categorized by five different items in a UK school from 1981 to 2001.
It is apparent that while the figure for teachers' salaries, insurance, and furniture and equipment had an upward trend, the opposite was true for other workers' salaries and resources e.g. books. Besides, despite some fluctuations, the outlay for teachers' salaries was dominant throughout this period.
Moving to a more detailed analysis, teachers' income accounted for 40% of total spending in 1981, 20 times larger than insurance, with a mere 2%. Afterward, the expenditure spent on teachers' salaries increased to 50% in 1991 but later declined to 45% after ten years. At the same time, insurance fees occupied 5%
According to the pie chart, in terms of furniture and equipment outlay, there was an enormous fall from 15% to 5% in 1991, then soared sharply to 23% in 2001. In contrast, the data on resources e.g. books and other workers' salaries were 15% and 28% respectively in 1981. Then, the expenditure on books decreased significantly to 9% in 2001 and like books spending, other workers' salaries stood at 15% in 2001.
