The chart illustrates several potential reasons behind absenteeism among employees according to the three surveys in a certain European country between 2000 and 2010.
In general, it is apparent that there were mostly five primary excuses given from not going to work, including illness, stress, personal needs, family responsibilites, and unexpected for for problems. While most workers needed sick leave was the most common reason, the opposite was true for the stress reason.
Looking at the chart, employees often left work because of sickness gaining popularity, reaching nearly the peak of approximately 45% in 2000. This figure was pretty twice and three times as great as the percentage of personal needs and family responsibilities, respectively. In contrast, according to the first survey, stress issues were the least significant reason for workers to have a day off, standing over a tiny percent. Noticeably, unexpected problems such as transport, and weather were two folders compared to the ratio of stress issues.
In the next 5 years, there was a substantial decrease in the percentage of leaving work due to illness until the end of the examined period by merely a fifth. On the contrary, it witnessed an upward trend in terms of personal needs up to around 23% in 2010. In the meantime, both stress and unexpected matters experienced a considerable fluctuation during the rest period, finally making up roughly 13% for both. Regarding family responsibilities, the ratio declined slightly in 2005 and then leveled off for the rest period.
