The chart below shows the total number of Olympic medals won by twelve different countries.
Write a report for a university, lecturer describing the information shown below.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

The bar chart illustrates the number of three different medals namely Gold, Silver, and Bronze achieved by 12 different nations of the world in the Olympic competition.
Overall, it can be seen that the USA won the highest number of medals in comparison with all the countries, while Japan gained the least. Similarly, looking at the different categories of medals, America had the most gold medals.
Regarding the total number of medals, the highest achiever of all kinds of medals is the USA at 2,300 which is over double the number of the Soviet Union, who ranked second among all the countries. The total number of medals won by the UK and France are around 750 and 650 respectively whereas for Germany and Italy this figure is just above 500. All the remaining six countries had their figure under 500, of them Japan recorded the least of around 400.
Coming to the various categories of medals, the USA had the most gold one's numbering about 900, for the remaining two showed almost the same numbers of around 700. However, for the rest of the countries, the proportion of these three types of medals are around one-third.
