The chart below compares the age structure of the population of France and India in 1984
The chart compares the age structure of the population of two countries namely India and France by gender. Overall, the population of India had a significant larger number of people aged from 0 to 20 than France, while French elderly inhabitants outnumbered those of India.
It is clear that the Indian population had far more people aged between 0 and 20 than its counterpart. In India, the 0-20 age cohort accounted for approximately 50% of the population, dominating the country’s population. By contrast, French population is more evenly distributed across the age ranges, with each five-year age bracket consituting of roughly 7% to 8% percentage of the population. It is noticable that France was populated by a significant number of people aged 50 upwards. The figure for this age group of France was 38% of the population, while the corresponding figure for India was a neglible 17%.
As is observed from the data, India’s population was more equally distributed by gender than France’s. French female ‘ proprtion slightly exceeded its male number by 10% of the population, while there is no discernible difference between the two equivalent figures for India.
