Many companies sponsor sports as a way of advertising themselves. Some people think that this is a good thing, while others think that it has disadvantages. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Sponsorship program for sports teams is considered as a significant advertising strategy by a number of corporate companies, nowadays. Owing to several positive sides of this advertising technique, some of us, including myself, consider this, a positive development and while others disapprove. The essay will discuss both the viewpoints and reach a logical conclusion.
Supporters of this advert mode claim that money recieved in the form sponsorship, helps in improving sporting standards of teams which lack financial support. These sponsorships can be utilized to build basic infrastructures such as practice grounds, upgrading training equipments which ultimately help in improving sporting skills in the players. Another possible reason why this trend is supported by many could be the healthy competition that persists when brands compete with the help of the teams they sponsor. This competition is always in favour of buyer as competing brands offer a lot of good deals to customers to stay on top of each other.
Critics, on the flip side, argue that when big market players dominate world level competitions with the help sponsorship, some of the indegenious companies suffer. As per them, world level sporting competitions have a large set of audience from several different nations, and when an international brand is promoted and is watched by viewership, sales of local brands which have same offerings, suffer. They point to the evidence found in Korea where all the Korean footware companies got bankrupt after FIFA cup 2005 due to the fact that Nike sponsored their football team. Furthermore, it is also believed that such advertising hampers the spending patterns of customers.
In conclusion, it is evident that advertising with help of sport sponsorship can have adverse effects on some of the local flagships and may perhaps influence customers spending habits. However, it brings along positives such financial aid in the form of sponsor fund which can be a boon for some teams and not to forget the competition which opens up the market for customer, and all these benefits make me support the idea of sponsorship in sports.
