Some people think that air travel should grow without a limit, while others believe that governments should limit it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
The recent boom in aviation industry has caused a growing disagreement between many experts that whether it should be greatly reduced, or even cut off altogether by the governments, or the authorities should not cause this emerging industry any trouble. Although both sides have valid points, I think any government intervention should be strictly avoided.
Proponents of imposing restrictions on air travel believe this industry poses a great threat to the environment by producing emissions in the upper atmosphere. They propose preventive measures like imposition of taxes, to tackle this issue. While it is true that aircraft engines exhaust fumes that causes pollution, but there is no viable alternative to usage of airplanes, which can be less energy-intensive and more efficient. Other means of transport like trains and cars, are much less environmental-friendly. A recent study by National Energy Organization of Iran (NEOI) indicated that co2 emissions caused by cars, is the leading cause of environmental pollution within the Middle East.
Another point to consider is, the role of government in the modern economy and society must be limited. Any intervention by governments might favor state-owned corporations that are currently active in the regional transportation market. For example, in the 2015, a scandal revealed by one of the Iranian newspaper, that partial restriction of airlines was due to a fraud plot, to shift the market towards government-sponsored railway companies. Needless to say that governments introduced such schemes as a national effort to curb environmental pollution at first.
To conclude, while there has been problems associated with the rising air travel in the past few years, we must bear in mind that there is no feasible option to using airplanes. Furthermore, security regulations are needed from the government to ensure the safety of our flights, but any further economic intervention can worsen the situation.
