A considerable number of people assert that it is fair to have earned a huge amount of money by champion sportsman than the others who hold equal or even more important professions. Others, on the other hand are vehement opponents of the aforementioned view claiming that the sportsperson are overrated and and overpaid. As far as I am concerned, the merits and the drawbacks of both views shall be pondered upon prior to advocating one.
On the one hand, people with more meaningful services which help the individuals and the society are paid much lesser. One well known example is that of a teacher. A teacher is someone who builds a base for every child in the society. Had there been no teacher, the child would not be able to bloom into a professional. The teacher is the most important job yet the most underpaid person. Due to low pay, the number of teachers are declining and it is harder to find people for such important jobs.
On the other hand, salary unfortunately does not always reflect the importance and necessity of a job. These successful athletes are parts of sports and entertainment industry which makes a lot of money and are a part of a big economy. There are millions of people who pay to watch sports and getting a share of profit by the sportsperson is not unjust. Also the career of these people are relatively shorter due to the constant competition. It is therefore, fair to earn more money in reasonably short period of time. Furthermore, people from entertainment industry are always paid a great deal of money. A sort of example that aptly illustrates my assertion has to do with the fact that actors and celebrities are the highly paid people on this planet. So, it is justifiable for athletes to earn more as they not only entertain people but also represent their countries and make them proud.
All in all I concede that despite the fact that they earn more money than what they deserve unlike other professionals who actually do, I believe that it is only justifiable that they earn a hefty sum of money as their career is short lived and are still more deserving than movie stars.
