Dear Sir,
I am penning down this letter to request an extension on my joining by a week as I would not be able to join next week. Let me briefly explain.

To elucidate since I work as a project lead and handle many critical projects for my existing employer therefore due to my short notice period there is a delay in the handover process. The person I need to transfer my work is travelling for work and will only be back by the end of this week. Hence my existing employer has requested me to stay for an additional week so that the transition and handover process is carried out smoothly. Although I can understand that you were expecting me to onboard by next week however I would need an additional week to close the handover process as mentioned above.

Lastly, I would be able to join by the first week of May as I would have closed all pending matters with my existing employer.
I hope you will approve of the above request.
Yours sincerely
Saud
