You have been offered a job that will require you to move to a city that you have
never visited before. You have an acquaintance who lives there.
Write a letter to the acquaintance. In your letter
• explain your situation
• say why you feel unsure about living in the city
• ask some questions about life in the city
Hi John,
It has been more than a year since our last meetup when you visited me back in December. I hope that you and your family are all doing well. I am writing to ask you for some advice regarding life in Vancouver. As you may not know, I just receive an offer from an animation studio in Vancouver. How amazing is that! This studio has produced many internationally acclaimed series, which definitely a spectacular opportunity for me to practise my expertise.
On the flip side, I am a bit unsure about moving to Vancouver because I don't have any relatives and friends there except for you. Additionally, little did I know about its lifestyle. Thus, I'm so worried about integrating into the new culture. After our graduation, you know, I spent most of my time working in Singapore while you decided to continue your higher study in Canada.
It would be much appreciated if you could recommend some peaceful neighborhoods that are suitable for me to rent. By the way, I don't know much about Vancouver's transportation system? Is it similar to Singapore with a complex network of trains and buses? Or driving your own car is more of an optimal option to get around. Lastly, I understand that the weather in Vancouver is vastly different from a tropical island like Singapore. What should I prepare before my departure to Canada in terms of necessities as well as clothing.
I would love to catch up with you as soon as I arrive in Vancouver and look forward to hearing from you soon.
Best regards,
Diamond
