Explain why you cannot go anymore
Say who can go instead of you
Say why this person is a good person to go with.

Dear Ram,
Hope you find this letter in great health. I am writing to you to inform that our plan to watch a movie together cannot see the light of the day. I can understand that you will be disheartened to hear that and I feel apologetic about it. The reason behind this sudden change is that, I have to travel to my hometown as my grandmother got her ankle fractured and I need to assist her in medical aid.
Though, I met Ramesh today, he has just completed his final year exams and was looking to distress himself. He was planning to watch the same movie this weekend and I asked him to join you for the same. Infact he was looking for a good company and in my view you will enjoy in his companionship. I have also asked him to contact you.
Ramesh would be a perfect fit to go along with you .Firstly, he has a knack of cracking jokes and will keep you engaged in his fun talks. Secondly, he has a good understanding about the city roads and traffic conditions that will help you to reach the movie hall well in time.
I hope you will have a wonderful time.
Your truly
Amit
