In contemporary life, opinions are divided as to whether the government ought to spend money on arts or they should distribute their money among other sectors. While I agree that works of art are luxury goods, but it is not to say that artistic products are idle.
Advocates for arts have their reason that artistic works are perfect tools to express human ideas and emotions. It is usually easier for children, especially who experience mental retardation, to draw a picture to show their complex thoughts or feelings than write words. Arts also help to covey cultural features from ancient civilization to modern world through many antique drawings, sculptures, and woodcarvings. Moreover, art industry brings tremendous financial benefits to the countries which have invested in it. Annually, huge revenue was gained from famous art galleries and museum over the world such as Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C and Le Louvre in Paris. Along with this attraction and development, other industries, especially tourism, are boosted and then the whole economy grows as a result.
On the other hand, allocating government funds on arts arbitrarily leads to other vital demands could not be supplied. , means that the more spending on artistic products, the less money attributed to human necessaries since the governmental budget is limited. Millions of people are starving every single moment over the world, mostly in third-world countries; Therefore these fundamental needs should be contributed to before recreational activities. In addition, spending on arts is considered extravagance and only a few people or elites can afford. Thus, it might be not truly equal for society because the underprivileged cannot enjoy or gain advantages arts. For instance, many well-known museums and galleries particularly serve the rich while the money used to build them was taken from everybody in society.
In conclusion, arts and their works are meaningful, but governments and authorities should reasonably balance the funds spending on them and other sections.
