The table below shows the amount of waste production (in millions of tonnes) in six different
countries over a twenty-year period.
The table compares the number of waste were produced, in millions of tonnes, by six nations, between 1980 and 2000.
Overall, the amount of waste production increased in all countries. Besides, the US always had the highest number over twenty years.
There was a rapid rise in the amount of waste production, in the US, from 131 million tonnes in 1980 to reach a peak of 192 million tonnes in 2000. The production also climbed quickly, in Japan and Korea, from 28 and zero million tonnes in 1980 to 32 and 31 million tonnes in 1990, respectively. While the number, in Korea, dropped dramatically to 19 million tonnes, the amount, in Japan, went up gradually to 53 million tonnes in 2000.
The waste production slowly increased, in Poland and Portugal, from 4 and 2 million tonnes in 1980 to 6.6 and 5 million tonnes in 2000, respectively. The amount, in Ireland, decreased slightly from 0.6 million tonnes in 1980 to the bottom that empty in 1990. Although the production rose to the same number as Portugal in 2000, this level still was the lowest point at the end of the period.
