News stories on TV and in newspaper are very often accompanied by pictures.
Some people say that these pictures are more effective than words.
What is your opinion about this?
There is no doubt that all of us want to be informed about the activities and incidents that occur around us and around the world. Although, there are multiple ways we can get this information, but the most common among them are television and newspapers. It is absolutely true that a picture can depict a lot more than what words can.
Let us start our discussion on how the pictures on TV convey a lot more than a news-reporter reading her script. If you see a video of a criminal trying to rob a store at gun point, don't you think you will have more empathy with the store owner than the one who just hears about it. Another great example would be watching the presidential debate on TV; the body language would depict how confident the candidate is, and would be a game changer in the outcome of the results. Having looked at the importance of graphics on television, lets move on to our next discussion.
Haven't we all heard the saying, "A picture is worth a thousand words". It is absolutely true when it comes to reading a newspaper. What you can see and feel from a picture of plane crash in a newspaper cannot be described in words. Also, the empathy you would feel by seeing the picture of animals and birds flee from a burning forest is overwhelming when compared to it, when described in a news headline. These are just a few examples to show the importance of picturing an event, than to just write about it.
As you must have already depicted, my strong opinion is towards having more pictures to describe any news than to only write a few sentences about it. Also, we all know the beauty of nature can be seen, but is a lot harder to describe.
