Essay topics:

Some students prefer classes with open discussions between the professor and students and almost no lectures. Other students prefer classes with lectures and almost no discussions. Which do you prefer? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Method of teaching is very important and essential in a successful class. Classes where students engage in discussion and classes where teacher does all the talking have their own advantage and disadvantage. As far as I am concerned, a class where students involve in discussion is much better than second choice. I feel this for two reasons which I will pinpoint in the following essay to strengthen my statement.

To begin with, I feel classes where I have opportunity to speak help to develop my intellectual skills and innovative ideas. A class where teacher does all the talking is very passive and boring. They mostly just involve focusing on memorization of facts and details, which is not helping in the long run. On the other hand, classes which involve lots of debate and discussion create very innovative students with high analytical skills. In my opinion, it's always better to understand the fact rather than to memorize it. For instance, when I was in my high school my chemistry teacher believed in group discussion about a topic rather than just giving a lecture. Me and my classmates prepare for discussion via referring various source of information prior to class, as result I am find myself a flexible person and always open to new idea than ever before. This example demonstrates how a class which involves group discussion can boost student’s intellectual skills.

Second point which deserves a word is, Classes with discussion and debates, foster students confidence and improve speaking skills which require to work well in groups. Many fresher man students arrive in university are very shy and unable to communicate well in group. Discussion and debate in class teach students how to communicate effectively and they can use it to excel their future carrier. My sister example is demonstrates this is true. My sister is very shy and introverted; she won't communicate well in group of people and won't enjoy working in group. However, when she entered in university she had to participate in group discussions, debates and presentation, due to all these discussion she became a confidant communicator. As result, when she began her carrier after graduation she excel in group work and seen by her co-worker and supervisor as a natural leader. She promoted quickly and advanced through the rank of company. Without participating in group discussion with his co-worker and classmate she would not able to develop a skill to succeed her in this way.

In a word, owing to the aforementioned reasonable causes and elucidations described in previous paragraph, it appears to be reasonable to draw a well founded conclusion that class with are centered on discussion between student and professor is preferable to those in which professor does all of the talking. This is because they developed students academically and teach them the skills which help them to excel their future.
