Some students prefer classes with open discussions between the professor and students and almost no lectures. Other students prefer classes with lectures and almost no discussions. Which do you prefer? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
There is still a debate in the teaching method between open discussion and full lectures class. In my opinion, the class with most of the activities are discussion is better than that without. I feel this way for two reasons, which I will explore in the following essay.
To begin with, I feel that open discussion class will drive students to be more focus on the object discussed. The discussion process involves the two-way communication between the teacher and students. This means that the students have to focus and understand the topic discussed. For instance, I experienced taking an open discussing class during my undergraduate. The multi-way of communication in the class forced me to get involved in the discussion. Moreover, it made me focus on the topic and be able to give my opinion regarding the topic.
Secondly, the discussion process obligate students to talk in front of many people. It stimulates students to be more confidence. For example, when I was in college, I have an unconfident friend. But during the open discussion class, he started to talk in front of the class, and eventually he became more confident to talk in front of the group.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that the open discussion model brings more benefits to the students rather than an inactive lectures class.
