Agnostids were a group of marine animals that became extinct about 450 million years ago. Agnostid fossils can be found in rocks in many areas around the world. From the fossil remains, we know that agnostids were primitive arthropods-relatives of modern-

In this set of materials, the reading and the lecture are both discussing Agnostids wherein the reading states that there are several theories about how the Agnostids may have lived and it provides three possible theories to support. However, the professor states that there are still issues with theories More than that, he challengers each the author’s points.
First, the writer of the reading claims that the Agnostids may have been free-swimming predators that hunted smaller animals. The lecturer refutes this point by explaining that free-swimming predators have large eyes. In contrast, the Agnostids have tiny eyes and they are blind at all. Considering this argument, Agnostids being free-swimming predators is contradicted.
Second, the reading states that the Agnostids are seafloor dwellers. However, the speaker of the listening states that the seafloor dwellers have to move slowly. Nevertheless, the Agnostids move fast and easy due to the fact that we can find them in the large distance.
Finally, the author of the reading says that there is a possibility that the Agnostids are parasites. The professor opposes this point by saying that the population of parasites is not large to kill the host. On the other hand, the Agnostids are large and live with the host.
In conclusion, the points that made in the lecture contrast with the reading. The first, second, third points in the lecture demonstrate that theories about Agnostids’ behavior are in doubt as well as both writer and lecturer hold conflicting views about Agnostids.
