Computarized Voting Systems
Both the passage and lecture discuss the perks and disadvantages that traditional and computerized voting systems have.
First, the passage starts claiming that the technology on computerized voting systems can assist voters to make all the process simpler, starting with helping people with poor eyesight through the resolution of the screen or how to select your candidate, but the lecture makes a point that a significant group of voters probably don’t use technology regularly, so they can’t take advantage of the benefits, make mistakes using it or even be scared of them and not going to vote.
Other things mentioned about the possible advantages of technology are that they can remove the possibility of human error and make it faster at the time of counting votes, but when its true humans can make mistakes while counting, the errors make by computers can cost thousands of votes in comparison to the few votes you can miss counting by hand. Besides, there is no physical form to check if there are failures in the system.
Last but not least, it talks about that implementing technology to voting systems is not that risky because today we implement them in other complex technology like banking or communication. But the thing that is not considered here is that these systems are used daily and have been improving since they start functioning, while the technology in voting systems is used only every two years, making it difficult to build a reliable system.
