"Ecocertified" wood for American people
Both in the passage and lecture, there are 3 points made about eco-certified wood in America, that involve advertisement, price, and competition.
In the first place, in the passage is claimed Americans consumers are exposed to so much advertising they don’t trust or even care about them. But in the dissertation, the professor rejects this by telling Americans don’t treat all advertising the same and have confidence in advertising claims made by independent agencies. In addition, American environmentalists are in favor of wood products ecologically certified by independent organizations.
On the other hand, low prices are indeed important for American consumers, but only when there is too much difference in price between two products. In this case, the difference rate between conventional and certified wood is less than five percent, so when it comes to choosing, they rely on factors rather than price.
Finally, US wood companies should make Eco-certified products, because the odds are American consumers will be increasingly interested in them, and if they don’t find this kind of products locally, the will buy to foreign companies.
