Undoubtedly, History of bees on the world is a controversial thing among the scientist. More specifically, the writer cast doubt on the existence of bees on earth from 200 million years ago. However, the professor points out that there are some serious flaw in the passage. She explain clearly why there's bees at that period.
To begin with, the writer claims that bees may not exist since there was no bees' fossil dated to 200 million years ago. The speakers says that there's no suitable condition for bees' remain forming a fossil. The bees can form a fossil when is covered by resin, and the tree producing resin is rare at that time.
Second, the writer mentions that there's no flowering plants at that time and since the flowering plants usually forms a mutually dependent relationship, it's unlikely that bees appeared at that time. The professor, again, give an alternative hypothesis to refute this problem. The professor speculates that early bees may feed on non-flowering plant, they may adapted to the flowering plants later.
Another question the writer proposed is that the modern bees' nest chambers ate closed by caps that have a spiral pattern, while the fossil found in Arizona doesn't posses such finer structures. The professor found that although the modern bees' nest chamber and the ancient one differs in form, they shared the same water-proof material.
In conclusion, the writer and the professor have different opinion on the history of bees and the professor provide more convincing evidence to support her claim.
