dinosaurs were endotherms because
some fossils are found in Polar Regions
their legs were underneath their bodies
there are canals in their bone structure
The reading claims that dinosaurs were endotherms and provides three reasons in order to prove this idea. However, the lecturer explains that these baseless ideas are not completely right and disprove all of the author's suggestions. In the follwoing, the rationale behind the professor's lecture will be elaborated.
First of all, the essay agrees that dinosaurs were endotherms because some fossils of them have been found in polar regions. On the other hand, the professor overthrows this idea. she confirms that polars in that period of time were not as cold as today. Moreover, she concedes that in cold circumstances dinosaurs could have migrated to warmer places or easily hibernated like many other creatures.
Secondly, the reading posits the author's idea owing to having legs under dinosaurs' bodies, but the teacher opposes this claim insomuch as she upholds that the position of the legs are mostly for supporting the extensive weights and sizes of dinosaurs' bodies; therefore, they did not have to run like other endotherms.
Third, the passage thinks that the bone structure is another supportive idea for this claim. Although the professors endorses this idea, she announces that they also had "growth rings". This is a solid proof that they were not endotherms inasmuch as these rings are structured in grwoing periods of an animal. When the weather is cold, the growing of the non-endotherm animal stops or decreases in pace, and when the weather is fine the pace of growing in that animal is fast. However, endotherms grow rapidly in a same pace whether the weather is cold or not.
