electronic database
The listening lecture totally opposes to the reading passage in whether electronic database is helpful for doctors. To begin with, the reading says that electronic records can help reduce costs by saving money on storing medical records. However, the listening argues that this is unlikely to be significant. Even though the doctors will look at the electronic records more oven, they would still keep the paper record for emergence. In other words, although they often use the electronic database, they will still need a space to keep these paper records for back up uses.
In addition while the reading suggests that electronic records are crucial to reducing the chances of medical errors, the listening asserts that doctors will still use pen and paper to take notes about the information of the patients. These information will be enter to the electronic database later by the office staff. As a result, unclear writing can still cause some mistakes while staffs are entering the informations. Indeed, this reason is not convincing.
Last but not least, the reading indicates that electronic database can greatly aid medical research by gathering large amount of data from patients' records. However, the listening implies that this explanation is also incorrect. It will be extremely difficult for doctors to collect information about patients, because since United State have strict privacy laws, patients are allow to keep their personal information without letting any notice from other people. If doctors really need these information, they will need to go through some complicated process and permissions in order to receive the records. To say it differently, doctors need permissions to receive information about each of their patients, so electronic database is not likely to be helpful for them to collect large amount of informations.
