franchise
First of all, the author of the reading claims that independents owners are always risking when they look for suppliers. In this field, franchises give their clients safer supplier support than if they have to seek by themselves. The lecturer, however, disagrees with this viewpoint. He states that regardless of franchise owners can find a cheaper and better supplier; they do not allow to use them. In other words, franchisees have strict contract rules about hiding suppliers. Thereby, they obtain extra benefit from their suppliers. Second, according to the reading passage, states that better business advertising is covered by a flat portion of the franchise owner's incomes, since they can save money. Again, the lecturer believes there are some flaws in the writer’s argument. The speaker holds that the franchise takes a large portion of the revenue, around six percent. To further elaborate, the franchise cover only their own products or brand, instead of the franchise owner business. As a final point, the author of the reading believes that invest in a franchise is safer than if anyone invests an independent business. The professor, however, beyond he think that could be true, there is a middle option to choose. Buying an already run independent company should be the best option because it has twice as much chance of success during the first four years as franchises. To sum up, both the writer and the lecturer hold conflicting views about running or not running a franchise business. It's clear that they will have trouble finding common ground on this issue.
