Geneticallay Modified
Both the reading and lecturer discuss the genetically modified trees and their effects on the environment and cost. The reading states that genetic modified is a process improving organisms gene and their characteristic. However, the lecturer refutes the belief presented in the reading by stating that genetic modified tres have some benefits but they have significant problems with the environment and their cost is very high.
To begin with, the passage claims that not only genetically modified technique contributes improving efficiency of trees but also reduce unfavorable effects. This argument is supported by the fact that GM trees more durable than local ones, such as papaya tress, in Hawaii, sturdy to virus infections. Nevertheless, the lecturer contradicts this idea by pointing out resistance is not main factor. Furthermore, the lecturer states being resistant to a virus can not protect other factors, such as climate changes, environmental factors and adaptation process.
Secondly, the reading mentions providing higher revenue from Genetic Modified trees. This notion is substantiated by the fact that GM trees provide higher productivity and economic advantages. They grow faster and resistant to pesticides. Yet, the lecturer challenges the argument found in the reading by revealing that GM trees increase cost of the maintenance. Moreover, the lecturer elaborates this by mentioning that GM products have to buy after harvest, and they have limited span period.
The third and last point found in the reading is that Genetic Modified trees can grow to use in the wood industry. According to the reading passage, this opinion is validated by the fact that many trees are being cut to meet demand. On the other hand, the lecturer rebuts this theory by explaining that local environment suffers from the one particular GM tree. Moreover in contrast to the articles, the lecturer asserts that they use natural resources very fast, such as water, minerals and nutritients in the soil. This causing exhausting the naturel sources.
Thus, there is stark difference between the reading passage and the lecturer.
