Intregrated Essay: Physical Sciences - Paleontology

In this reading passage, the author claims it’s believed that Brachiosaurus lived in water habitats. However, the lecturer in the listening passage disagrees and she attacks each argument made in the article.

First, the writer addresses that Brachiosaurus wasn’t able to stand on land since its bones and frames couldn’t afford the great mass. Nevertheless, the speaker points out that there are a few of fossils show that this giant dinosaur once walked on land. Plus, the young Brachiosaurus can even stand with their two feet. Therefore, the lecturer believes that it’s still possible for Brachiosaurus to live on land.

Second, the author claims that Brachiosaurus couldn’t reach tree leaves because the weight of neck and head is too heavy to lift. While the professor in the listening passage holds different opinion. She thinks it’s definitely possible for Brachiosaurus to live on tree leaves since it could raise the neck to the height of branches just like giraffe.

Another reason why the writer thinks that Brachiosaurus lived in water habitats is because its nostrils are on the top of its head. However, the lecturer believes it’s not reasonable since the bone fossils showed that it’s flat feet couldn’t stand in mud. Moreover, there are some land animal has upper nostrils to breathe, such as elephant.
