Jane Austen 1775 1817 is one of the most famous of all English novelists and today her novels are more popular than ever with several recently adapted as Hollywood movies But we do not have many records of what she looked like For a long time the only acc

The reading passage as well as the lecture is about the sketch/portrait of one of the notable novelist Jane Austen . In the reading it maintains that although the painting is not titled as Jane Austen there are various good reasons which proves that the painting is of Jane Austen. On the contrary , the lecturers asserts that the painting doesn't depicts that it is of Jane Austen.

TO begin with , Passage maintains that after the death of Austen her family members gave the permission to use the portrait as an illustration in the letters as well. However, the Lecturer contends that when the portrait of Austen was authorized she was nearly 78 years. As a result, there is minimal chances that the descendants of Austen may have recognized her.

Secondly, the reading passage asserts that the portrait face resembles with that of the Cassandra sketch .Although, the sketch seems less amateur there is resemblance of eye, nose and hair .On the other hand, the Lecturer contends that Austen family was so humongous so it may depicts the face of one of Jane Cousins.

Lastly,it is assumed that it is because of the advanced style known as Ozais Humphrey style which clarify that although painting if unsigned and undated it is painted when Austen was teenager. Evidently, it is because this style was flourishing during the time when Austen was teenager. However, the Lecturer is highly contentious with this subject matter regarding the style . The lecturer posits that the Humphrey style became renowned as famous when Austen was 27 years old .

In a Nutshell, both the Reading passage and lecturer holds conflicting views regarding the painting of Austen .It is clear that they will have trouble finding common ground on this issue.
