The lecture discusses lentic ecosystems. Summarize the points made in the lecture, and explains the points made in the reading passage.
The reading passage is giving details about the Lotic ecosystem and provides three points to explain about this ecosystem. However, the professor is describing about the Lentic ecosystem and giving details about that ecosystem.
First, the professor is saying that in lintec ecosystem water is stationary, not move by the wind or any other resource. Examples of Lentic ecosystem are ponds and marshes. According to the reading passage, in Lotic ecosystem, water moves continuously over the surface of earth and speed of water flow depends on the wind, rainfall patterns, snow melt and other seasonal changes.
Second, the professor states that in Lotic ecosystem, freshwater oxygen content varies according to the depth of water. Oxygen contents are high on the surface because of floating algae and other microscopic organisms and in more depth decomposition of organic matter decreases the oxygen supplies. On the other hand, the reading claims that the level of oxygen is high in Lentic ecosystem because of the water flow of water over the rocks, logs and other objects. Faster flow of water absorb more water and provides more oxygenated water.
Finally, the professor explains that in Lotic ecosystem organic matter production in water occurs in the body of water itself and most production is provided by floating algae near the surface and by plankton and other microscopic organisms which floats on warm water surface. However, the reading mentioned that measure of organic matter in Lentic ecosystem depends on the area where water flows and the speed of water flow. Plankton and other microscopic organisms usually washed away by the flow of water in Lentic ecosystem.
