Meerkat
It is conventionally believed that individuals gain nothing from altruistic acts. However, recent study shows that individuals gain benefits from performing altruistic acts.
Opposing the passage, scientists prove in the lecture that meerkats gain benefits being sentinels. They have the right to eat first. The lecture mentions that meerkats usually stands guard with a full stomach.
It is believed that meerkats gain safety while being stand-guards, disputing the passage. In the passage, it states, meerkats have lower possibility to survive if it is alone. Actually, sentinels usually stand guard near burrow, after releasing an alarm, it can immediately hide in it.
The lecture also states, they have a higher survival rate. They are more likely to escape. They see the predators first, the other feeding group scatters everywhere or gather together, they will draw the predators’ attention n away from the sentinel. It increases the chances of the sentinel’s survival.
In contrary to the passage, human beings also gain something from performing altruistic acts. If you give a kidney to a relative or stranger, the majority say you gain nothing. But you will get none- material appreciation. This gift is far more valuable than actual objects.
