Proffessor shows on TV show
The lecturer completely refutes the reading.
while the reading claims that professor being on television would be of a great benefit to the professor as it will add to his reputation as a scholar which will help him to get funds for his research, the lecturer challenges this by mentioning that his colleagues won’t take him seriously, so he won’t get invited to important academic meetings accordingly he won’t get a fund to his research.
Also, the lecturer claims that it’s not so beneficial to audience to have a professor on a TV show since they only care about entertainment not in-depth intellectual substance, and this would just need a Tv reporter to give superficial information about the academic title in question. So, the idea of audience getting a taste of real expertise in not well founded
Lastly, while the reading claims it will help the university in getting more donations and possible future students applications, the lecturer mentions that it doesn’t help the university to have a professor who is busy with preparing and traveling for a TV show instead of interacting with students and doing researches. so, the claim about benefits to the university is not valid.
In conclusion, the lecturer believes that it doesn’t make a huge impact on neither to professor nor to the university to appear on the TV and talk to audience as an academic expert.
