The reading and passage are both discus the effect of increase of population and agriculture in declination of bird population. The author claim that increase in settlement and growth of agriculture in addition to increase in using of pesticide will cause decrease in bird’ population. The lecturer casts doubt on claim made in the article. She states that, the claims which are given by author inconvenient.
First, the author says that increase in population and settlement will decrease habitats used by birds, therefor, decreasing of suitable places for birds causes declination of the birds. This point challenged by lecturer. She mentions that is increasing in urban like building will decrease some types of birds, but will cause increasing of other types which can find urban as a good habitat.
Second, the writer argues that increasing in settlement will need increase in agriculture, therefor more land used for growing of crops, hence decreasing in the habitats used for birds. The professor rebuts this argument. She mentions, its true that agriculture harm the birds but it is not like the same degree which is mentioned in article, furthermore, there is decreasing in the amount of land that uses for agriculture year after year, in addition increase of agriculture will lead to increase of amount of crops.
Finally, the author points out to increasing in agriculture will causes increase in using of pesticides which will decrease in bird’ population or prevent their reproduction. In the other hand, the professor suggests, production of new brand of pesticide will little effect on plants, moreover, planting of new generations of crops with different genes that are not effected by pesticides will solve this issue.
