The reading passage claims that the zebra mussel has long been spreading out from their habitats and believe this invasion can not be stopped and makes a lot of threat for freshwater fish. However, the professor in the lecture casts doubts on the points made in the reading.
First, considering the article the invasion might be unstoppable and ships carry them out along new canals and habitats. In contrast, the professor contradicts the idea and further explains that a view about unstoppable spread of the zebra mussel is due to lack of knowledge about them and most of the shellfishs dead in the salty water during a journey in the bottom of ships in all around the world.
Second, the reading claims that zebra mussel have no predators in their new area and they do well under variety of conditions. Admittedly, the professor justified the information presented in the article and makes the points that in new sites the zebra mussels have problems finding enough foods and also birds find them as a delicious meal.
Third, the reading passage puts forward the idea that the mussels are plankton eater, which means they compete for food with fish specious. In the same way, the speaker validates the idea and adds that but there are positive aspects such as the mussels can produce nutrition for feeding bottom fish population.
To sum up, both the writer and speaker hold conflicting views about spreading the mussels out from its original habitats.
