A recent study reveals that people, especially young people, are reading far less literature—novels, plays, and poems—than they used to. This is troubling because the trend has unfortunate effects for the reading public, for culture In general, and for the future of literature itself.
The reading and the lecture are both about the change in cultural level among generations. According to the reading passage, the reduction in the cultural level is associated with the redistribution of time from reading to watching TV shows. The lecturer casts doubt on the claims made in the article. By using the following evidence, she suggests that neither the reduced interest in literature as a genre, nor the increased demand on watching TV shows and listening music is not correlated with the cultural level.
First of all, a book does not have to be literature to be a high quality one, which can boost the creativity and stimulate imagination. Good book does not have to be of a specific genre, in addition that doesn’t not mean that by reading the fiction book the reader reduces her cultural level. This point differs from one in the article, according to which the decline in popularity of literature is correlated with the lack of intellectual stimulation. Likewise, the author of the reading supports this claim by mentioning that there has also been known evidence in missing out on important benefits of the literature books.
Furthermore, listening to brilliant music and watching globally recognised movies become the other form of expression of culture. The evidence buttresses the idea as to when watching TV is conjugated with the decrease in overall cultural level. However, the author of the reading passage contends that diverting time from reading literature to trivial forms of entertainment has lowered the level of culture in general.
Additionally, the lecturer puts forth the idea that the decline in popularity of literature is the author’s fault. The modern books became too hard to understand, which made them less popular entertainment. This counters the point made in the reading passage, according to which the decrease in funding of writers is the outcome of the lack of audience. The writing as well as the reading of literature is likely to decline because of poor standards.
