Some people claim that not enough of the waste from homes is recycled. They say that the only way to increase recycling is for governments to make it a legal requirement.
To what extent do you think laws are needed to make people recycle more of their waste?
As the population is growing all around the world, people are using more food, drinks, which produces millions of tons of trash which is not only harmful to the environment, but associated with human health risks. Now may some people think not enough of recyclable waste is recycled by householders, for which they assert that the government is responsible and the problem will be tackled only by establishing restrict rules for citizens. Personally, I believe that legal enforcement is not the only method to employ; instructing people is needed as well.
Consumers definitely need regulations in order to co-operate in the recycling chain. In other words, people play an important role in cleanup efforts and if they do not be governed by law, most of them would see no need to put their waste in separate trash receptacles. More specifically, when consumers use for instance bottles, they rather put it in the same trash bin with their wasted food, because it's more convenient; worse, they grab it in nature and say: the city will sort it out!. Thus, they must taste the authority of government by tax-paying or other instructions. But, as Rob Kaplan- an investor- told National Geographic: "there is no silver bullet to stop plastic pollution". To put it in other words, governments cannot eliminate whole recyclable wastes just by formulating rules; every single person's cooperation is needed on this planet. Citizen's lifestyle must be changed towards classifying waste fractions. And in order to do so, people also need education.
Indeed, most people want to cooperate with waste collection services, but they do not know how exactly they can separate recyclable wastes. Consequently, a high percentage of the population just rather put all trash in one blue bin!. Therefore, governments need to ensure we citizens are aware and disciplined. To illustrate, in developed countries like Finland and Sweden, not only children learn about waste collection in school times, but also government does powerful funding projects to make people full-aware of the way of collecting and separating their waste, And one can see how those countries are successful in recycling management compared to developing countries like Iran in which most people even do not know what recyclable waste is.
To sum up, in order to increase the rate of recyclable waste collection by people, not only governments need to apply the special rule on citizens, but also they need to make people more aware of principles of collecting household waste.
