Soon technology will provide smart cars: cars that virtually drive themselves. A computer in the car determines the speed and route to the desired destination. The computer is in continuous contact with a global positioning system and other technologies that will provide extremely accurate information about the location of the car, other cars on the road, congestion, accidents, and so forth. the human driver will be little more that a passenger. Smart cars promise to make driving sater, quicker, and less expensive.
Both the reading passage and the lecture discuss the idea of smart cars which providse auto drive system. With this in mind, the author claims that there are some benefits in using smart cars. On the other hand, the professor contradicts this idea and explains that it is not clear that whether smart cars have benefits or not.
First, the writer holds the view that smart cars are more safer and will provide less accident because of using many accurate sensors for detecting cars and obstacles in the route. Conversely, the lecturer makes it clear that since it is possible that some technological sensors and devices fail so the harsh accidents would be happen by using smart cars.
Second, While the reading selection points out that wide use of smart cars will reduce the traffic problems, the speaker refutes this idea and believing that it may people experience more traffic. since driving is much easier by this samrt car so, we will see a growing willingness to driving by this cars. Thus, the traffic congestion would not allow to using auto driving system.
Finally, the author brings this idea that the costs of driving will be decrease by using smart cars because they are controlled in a way to drive in direct path. Therefore, they need less repair of regularly replacement of their expensive items and equipments. However, the professor provides some reasons on the contrast of the speaker claim. She says that global positioning systems are much expensive and also some technology needed by these cars are costly and repair of them are much expensive than repair of ordinary cars.
