sound
The reading and lecture are both about whether scientist can detect the special sounds that sailor could hear about twenty years or not. The passage presents three explanations to posit why it is a mystery phenomenon since scientist cannot recognize any solid moving of submarine in the ocean. The professor, however, refutes all of the those explanations.
To begin with, the author of the reading claims that orca whales is a kind of animals produce sounds and because they are occupying with ritual make this sound and submarine cannot detect their voices. Nevertheless, the professor opposes this claim by mentioning that this theory is implausible, due to the fact that whales live in the superficial of ocean and submarine located in the depth of ocean, so whale's voice which have not hear by sailor.
Secondly, the article posits that in the ocean sort of animals live without any invertebrates and have soft body the names are giant squid. He assume the sound belongs to this animals and because of their body, they are not detectible. However, the professor maintains an opposite opinion that although this gigantic animal is a better candidate than whales but it is not a great idea, the sounds belong to them because they have living until now but the sound merely was been detected for two decades.
Third, the reading mention that maybe this sound is for the strange submarine of foreign country and cannot register to sonar, so submarine was not detectable. The professor, on the other hand, cast the doubt on this claim by stating that if submarine is from secret country, they should move fast and further away from Russian submarine and the sound hardly hear. Moreover, scientist cannot built the submarine which drive fast and be silent and cannot detectable.
