Summarise the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they case doubt on specific points made in the reading passage.
In this case of material, the text and the lecture offers two opposing views on the possibility of whether decline in book reading has unfortunate effects for the culture in general or not. With this in mind, the author casts doubt on devastating effects of decrease in reading literature books on culture. The lecture on the other hand, categorically, refutes all these episodes of argument mentioned in the reading , believing that those specific claims can be challenged.
First, the passage claims that decreased book reading has led to sharp decline in literature and missing out on important benefits that it can provide for us. In contrast, the speaker counteracts this idea, mentioning that reading other types of books, such as politic or etc instead of literature books can provide us plenty of benefits. Other categories of books can similarly stimulate our imagination and have any other benefit that literature books can bring about for us.
Moreover, this reading asserts that less reading and pay much attention to other types of entertainment material has lowered the level of culture. The lecture challenges this view point stating that, other types of entertainment can be valuable cultural material and these are not just books that can reach to the high standards of culture. In fact, listening to master pieces of music or other types of culture is not waste of time.
Finally, the author holds the view that because of the poor standards of today's readers, writing is going to decline as reading has done. On the other hand, the professor repudiates this opinion and believes that although less reading will lead to less support for writing, but its not always the reader's blame. Take it as example, modern art literature is one if the most difficult literature that can not attract readers and as result of that, less readers are interested in reading such hard pieces of arts and will spend time on other attractive materials.
