malaria and parasites
According to the reading, Malaria is a tropical disease that affects a large number of humans. moreover, the reading claims that there are three effective strategies to help in decreasing the widespread of this disease which is caused by parasites.
In contrast, the professor in the lectures explains why these strategies are not effective in eliminating the disease.
First, the reading claims that using strong medications can help to eradicate the disease. But before that, accurate testing of the specific strain of parasite to determine which medicine is the best. On the other hand, the professor suggests that there are no drugs to cure Malaria, and parasites became immunized to various types of medications. So no longer effective to the parasites.
Secondly, the reading points that killing the mosquitoes through spraying chemicals can help. However, the professor claims that spraying is easy, but it is not easy to reach enough mosquitoes. So it is unlikely to apply this strategy.
Finally, the reading explains that by using a specific technique called sterile to the insects, it is possible to achieve the goal. Furthermore, the professor in the lecture agrees with this method. he thinks it is effective strategy. But he points out one disadvantage. By applying this method with gamma rays a distinction of mosquitoes can occur because of the lack of attraction towards other female species.
