Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they challenge the specific points made in the reading passage.
The passage and the lecture focus mainly on three of the beliefs that people have about the largest animal on lands, the elephants, which are animals that usually live in herds and are indigenous to both regions in Asia and Africa. While the passage supports three beliefs, including elephants' cognizance that they are on the verge of death, elephants intrinsic aesthetic skills, and elephants' apprehension towards mice, the lecturer stands against all the opinions presented in the reading material by proposing three counterarguments. First of all, the passage states that as elephants grow older and become frail, they realize that they are on the brink of demise. After knowing this fact, they would leave their group and become solitary near places of water, which are referred to as elephant graveyard, where they finally pass away on their own. This concept is said to be championed by evidence of bones of senescent elephants in myriads of sites. On the other hand the lecturer disproves the passage's idea by introducing that elderly elephants depart from their group due to the fact that their teeth are not as efficient as before, so they face hard time grinding food. Ergo, they would need to leave and search for foods that are easier to chew and are softer, and they would eventually die at the sites where they look for food resources. Secondly, the reading suggests that elephants are assumed to to possess aesthetic skills. They can be instructed to paint with paintbrush using their trunk. Some of them can draw things such as flowers, and others can sketch themselves. This is amazing because other than human beings, elephants seem to be the only living creature that can draw. In contrast, the speaker opposes the passage's idea by insisting that humans actually train these elephants by touching their ears to make them engage in certain tricks. By touching their ears, they can train them to remember certain moves and can thus control their use of paintbrush. Humans would also encourage the elephants to draw. Lastly, the reading passage posits that elephants are afraid of mice. Even though mice are small creatures and are nearly innocuous, elephants fear them a lot than other larger and even more detrimental animals. Oppositely, the lecturer is against the view mentioned in the passage. Instead the lecturer counters that the information is mistaken by saying that this is due to the unfamiliarity that elephants have towards mice. In fact, this seems to be an instinct that they have developed because they have not seen mice before. Actually, this would be different in places where mice are prevalent around elephants such as zoos. Elephants in zoos are
