Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they respond to the specific points made in the reading passage.
TPO-36

Both the lecture and the reading discuss the effectiveness of cloud seeding. The author of the reading believes that this method works properly in order to protect crops from hail. The lecturer, however, casts doubt on the claims made in the article. She states that it is not clear how effective cloud seeding is.

First of all, the author of the reading points out that some laboratory experiments show that adding silver iodide to cold water vapor forms light snow instead of hail. This point is challenged by the professor. She says that laboratory conditions are different from reality, and silver iodide may prevent any type of precipitation and the crops will be damaged by another reason, the lack of water.

Secondly, the author states that there is evidence about effectiveness of this method from a few countries in Asia that successfully control precipitation in cities using cloud seeding. The lecturer rebut this argument. She suggests that the results in Asia could not necessary be repeated in United States. She elaborates on this by mentioning that this results may be consequences to air pollution in urban areas, which provides a favorable condition for precipitation and this method cannot be apply to an unpolluted area.

Finally, the author states that local studies support this method. As an example, it is mentioned in the passage that one study in a farming region in central United States showed that cloud seeding works properly. The professor, on the other hand, points that the hail damage decrease also in other regions, therefore it is the result of natural variation not cloud seeding.
