Tidal power- the integrated task
The given passage is elucidating the importance of tidal power with some characteristics, and advantages. While, a lecturer is casting doubts and explaining some drawbacks, and giving some details of the function, impact, and challenges.
Firstly the passage is delivering the construction information, and requirement of the tidal power plant along with the functions which are articulated with some possibilities of the degree of success
in the production of tidal power. However, the lecturer is casting doubt that tidal power is not effective in terms of the amount of energy production and comparing it with conventional way of electricity production. But, a lecturer is maintaining that it may produce considerable electricity on the regional level.
Secondly, the geographical, and topographical parameter is supposed to be considered while building the power plant described by the passage. Certain conditions are mandatory like the difference between the low tide and high tide, the location of the plant which estuary. While, some drawbacks like change in the quality of water in the estuary, impact on the wildlife in the surrounding and ecological effect rendered by the lecturer. Moreover, it going to be a problem for surrounding fishing community that there will be a paucity of fish in the vicinity, increased in saline water as turbines will exchange the water from sea and river, plus there will be a lot of mud, and debris will get accumulated in the estuary, and fishing boats cannot travel or settle down from estuary to the seawater to prevent unstable water in the sea.
Thirdly, Even though tidal energy is clean, non-polluting, no greenhouse gases are produced it is very difficult to design an economical as it is very expensive to build the powerplant. Additionally, it is responsible to affect the local economy of the surrounding.
In totality, a clearer picture is rendered by the passage with some positive points and very well contradicted by the lecturer with some perils.
