TOEFL T P O 13 Integrated Writing Task

In this set of materials , the reading and lecture both are discussing about ownership of fossils. The author believes that the fossils should belongs to scientific experts and museums. The lecture cast doubt on all the points mentioned in the passage. He mentions that the disadvantages mentioned in passage about ownership of fossils to rich collectors outweigh the advantages.

First of all, the writer posits that if fossils are with wealthier collectors then general public would not be able to view the fossils and will lose interest to study them. On the contrary, the speaker argues that people will have greater opportunity to view these fossils. Schools and library will display them for the public.

Furthermore, the author states that scientists will not be able to obtain ample amount of information from the fossils as they will not get assess to fossils to study them. On the other hand, the professor posits that usually after the discovery of fossil, it is first studied by a scientist to know about it's authenticity. So, they will not miss the opportunity to study the fossil or miss out any information regarding the fossil.

Finally, the passage contends that unprofessional wealthy fossil seekers will destroy valuable scientific evidence. As, they do not have much knowledge about the fossils they will overlook the important details. While, the speaker claims that even though, some details might be missed the rich people are the only source of money for such projects of excavation. Scientists and other institution do not have enough funding to work on multiple excavation projects. Thus, in fear of missing valuable information; the discovery of fossil will remain unearthed.
