TOEFL T P O 47 - Integrated Writing Task

The lecture and the reading both discuss the fly ability of the Pterosaurs. While the reading states that this animal has some weakness and cannot fly, the lecture refutes each of the author's reasons.

First of all, the reading claims the pterosaurs are cold-blooded reptiles and this kind of animals cannot fly because they need to consume more energy. However, the lecture argues that fossils of Pterosaurs show this animal has a hair which covers the whole body, and we know that warming-blood animal has a hair on their body to preserve the body heat. Furthermore, the professor says, the metabolism of the warm-blooded animal supply enough energy to powered flight.

In addition, the reading makes the arguments that pterosaurs cannot fly due to their weight which was very huge. The lecture counter this point by stating Pterosaurs have unusual light anatomy, for instance, they had hollow bones instead of solid bones. According to the professor, this low weight helps the animal to consume less energy for flying.

Ultimately, the reading passage argues that pterosaurs needed big and powerful muscle to fly but their leg's muscles were delicate. The lecture refutes this claim by pointing out there is some difference between birds and pterosaurs birds use two legs for running and jumping but pterosaurs use the four legs. Moreover, the professor says this animal uses four legs to push off the ground to jump high and to walk.
