In this set of material, the reading passage presents three ways to prevent birds from crash to transparent glass. The lecturer challenges this solution and finds them unlikely to prevent birds from collide.
Firstly, the author of the passage claims that using one-way glass which are transparent from inside and opaque from outside could alarm birds as a solid material to avoid crash. In contrast, the professor refutes this point by saying that the opaque side of glass seems as a mirror and reflect sky, as a result birds could not distinguish between sky and reflection on mirror, so collide to the glass. Hence, this solution unlikely to be beneficial.
Secondly, the reading passage asserts that painting outer side of glass with colorful stripes lines avoids birds to fly through the glass. The lecturer, however, casts doubt on this point and says that birds see spaces between lines as a hole and fly toward this empty spaces, therefore crash to the glass. To avoid this crash unpainted spaces should be in minimum size, but the inside become dark.
Finally, the passage mentions that using magnetic field should apply in order to guide birds for other direction. The lecturer rebuts this point and says that birds use magnetic field as a compass for long distance fly and utilize their eye for short distances. Therefore, using magnetic field to prevent glass crash is useless.
