TPO-01 - Integrated Writing Task In the United States, employees typically work five days a week for eight hours each day. However, many employees want to work a four-day week and are willing to accept less pay inorder to do so. A mandatory policy requiri

The given lecture refutes the four-day work week for the employees as suggested in the given passage. According to the passage, a mandatory policy offering 80% of their salaries for a four-day workweek is beneficial to the economy, individual, as well as the companies.

Firstly, as per the passage, four-day work week can provide the employees more time to rest which in turn, increases their chances of making errors at work. The overall improved production can increase the economy of the company. But, according to the passage, hiring new employees due to cut down on the hours of current employees can increase companies expenditure for training, arranging new computers and providing health benefits to the new employees.

Secondly, as per the passage four-day work week can decrease unemployment by hiring new employees. On the other hand, the lecture states that might be overburdened by expecting to finish the same amount of work which they were supposed to do in five days. This can be unpleasant to the employees rather than making them relaxed and rested.

Thirdly, according to the passage four-day workweek can improve the quality of life of the employees by providing them extra time to spend time with their families, take part in their private interests, and leisure activities. On the other hand, the lecture disapproves it by stating that four-day work can lead to less job stability of employees and increases their chances of being laid off in periods of economic crisis. The four-day work can also lead to bypassing of the employees for consideration for promotion by the companies.
