TPO-01 - Integrated Writing Task In the United States, employees typically work five days a week for eight hours each day. However, many employees want to work a four-day week and are willing to accept less pay inorder to do so. A mandatory policy requiri

The article suggests that a four-day workweek with less payment would be beneficial for the whole economy as well as the individual company and the employee who decided to take the option, and he provides three points of support. However, the professor disagrees with the author's points, and he refutes each of the author's points.

First,The passage states that four days workweek would increase the company profit since the employee will have more time to relax and rest. As a result, they will be less likely to do costly error. On the other hand, the professor opposes this idea by explaining that four days workweek will force the company to spend more money on providing training as well as health insurance for the new hiring. In addition to that, the company should provide more office space and computer desk.

Secondly, the reading claims that the new plan will enhance the whole economy since it would decrease the unemployment rate. If the full-time employees work less hours, they will shift some of their workload to a new employee. However, the professor refutes this point by pointing to the fact that no additional job will be created since the hiring cost is very high. Moreover, the company will raise the expectation that the a four-day employee will do the same a mount of work that they used to do it in a five-day workweek. As a consequence, no additional jobs will be created plus the current jobs will be unpleasant.

Finally, the author claims that the new plan will be in favor of the employee who opt for the four days workweek because it will increase the quality of their life. They will have more time to indulge in family events or pursuing special goals. In the contarary, the lecture contradicts this idea by explaining that the four days workweek will presents some risks since in the economic downturn the four days employee tend to lose their job and they will pass over promotions.
