TPO-01 - Integrated Writing Task In the United States, employees typically work five days a week for eight hours each day. However, many employees want to work a four-day week and are willing to accept less pay inorder to do so. A mandatory policy requiri

The benefits explained in the passage have been ruled out by the lecturer completely by stating that the benefits of hiring part time workers will be out weighted by its drawbacks.

Firstly, the passage states that overall company will make a financial gain by hiring employees on part time basis based on the US law of hiring them at 80% of the normal pay. This will be cost effective because lesser pay results is higher gains. However, the lecturer state that this will instead be a costly decision because companies will need to spend more on hiring, training and medical insurance. Also, for increased number of employees, more space and computers will be required resulting in increased expenses and lesser profit.

Secondly, the passage supports part time hiring more than the regular hiring by emphasizing on unemployment rates that they will decrease because working for a shorter period of time will make work available for others. But again lecturer refute this claim by saying that since employees will be required to work only for 4 hours every day for 5 days and they will only get 80% of the regular pay may not cover all of their expenses and eventually, this will require them to find more work resulting in further unemployment as there may be few or no opportunity available.

Thirdly, passage states that working for a short time period will make work interesting, lesser errors will be made as the employees get full rest and will be motivated to work efficiently resulting in reduction of workload for all. But the lecturer disagrees to this by saying that this could easily be achieved if full time employees work overtime.

Lastly, the passage states that employees will be able to spend quality time with their families more if they work part time. However, the lecturer says that this will also lead to lesser career advancement opportunities, reduced stability at work and if there is a down turn in the economy then part time employees are the first ones to lose their jobs. And this leads to no job security
